Clean Spills Promptly
While your floor is sealed against moisture absorption, it is important to clean spills up promptly. Never let them dry. Instead, remove them with paper towels or cleaning cloths. Never use abrasive cleaners or harsh cleaning tools (never use steel wool, for instance).
General Cleaning
For general cleaning, you will likely need nothing more than a broom and dustpan to clean your terrazzo floor. Regular sweeping will keep your floor looking good for a long time. However, you will need to take additional steps from time to time, particularly if your area is high traffic. Note that for many areas, a dry mop or dust mop can be used instead of a broom. Also, note that the luster of the floor will dim as fine dust accumulates (too fine to be removed with a broom or dust mop). Deeper cleaning will be necessary to restore the shine to your floor.
Mopping
Periodically, you should mop your terrazzo floor with a mop and a mild cleaner. Note that you should always use a natural stone or terrazzo cleaner – these are formulated specifically not to harm the finish on your floor. Never use dish soap or multipurpose cleaners on your terrazzo. Let the water sit on the floor until all the dirt has dissolved, and then either mop it up or use a squeegee to remove dirt and water at the same time.
Buffing
After mopping, you will need to buff the terrazzo floor to restore its shine. This can be done manually, but it is generally faster with a motorized buffer, particularly for larger spaces.
